Short Review: TP-LINK TL-AP1750C

Artikel ini juga tersedia dalam Bahasa Indonesia.

Still on the subject of my hobby of buying and using secondhand networking equipment, this time I’m trying out a ceiling access point made by TP-LINK, specifically the TL-AP1750C series.

This access point is actually intended for corporate/office use. Additionally, this device is sold for the Chinese market, as indicated by the firmware only supporting Mandarin. However, on the upside, I managed to get this AP at a very affordable price, which is 185,000 rupiah (~$12 USD) via Tokopedia.

Pros and Cons

Here are some advantages that make this access point interesting to buy:

  • Its price is very affordable compared to its specifications, only 185k rupiah.
  • Supports 5GHz WiFi AC, has a Gigabit LAN port, and is powered via Power over Ethernet (PoE).
  • The default firmware has the features I’m looking for, including Band Steering, client isolation, VLANs, etc.

Meanwhile, the disadvantages to consider include:

  • According to my search results, there is only one seller selling this device on Tokopedia.
  • The firmware only supports Mandarin, making it a bit difficult to configure.
  • Since it’s intended for the Chinese domestic market, the WiFi region cannot be changed, so the WiFi AC signal is not detected by some devices, especially iPhones.
  • There is no power port, so the only way to power this device is via Power over Ethernet (PoE). The PoE voltage required by this device must be exactly 48 volts, so you’ll need to purchase additional equipment like an adapter and a PoE injector.
